Defense Distributed and More on the Political Implications of 3D Printing

We talked about printable guns last month and some of the philosophic and political implications around them.  But this video really takes it to another level.

It’s from a group calling themselves Defense Distributed, and they’re trying to fund a project to create a CAD file for a handgun which will be open-source and can be 3D printed.  Assuming this works and is reliable, it would allow anyone, anywhere to easily circumvent gun laws.

How long before 3D printers become regulated? When objects can be created at will, and governments don’t want you to have some of those objects, will they clamp down on the means of production?
